Helping Teens and Young Adults Overcome Distractions and Focus on What's Important
Oct 10, 2024Fall is Time for Focus
If you are a Teen or Young Adult, it can be extremely challenging to navigate everything currently happening in your life. You have family, friends, school, sports, along with all of the additional pressures that come with "growing-up".
Important stuff like figuring out who you are, what's important to you, and what you want your future to look like.
Like we said...the most important stuff there is.
We understand that figuring all of this out can feel overwhelming at times. Which is why it's so easy to become distracted, to make bad choices, and to maybe even feel lost at times.
It's probably not a surprise to hear that distractions (like phones, friends, social media, etc.) are such a huge challenge for young adults. Not because they are entirely bad things (many of them can be seen as positive and helpful as well), but instead because they can frequently pull you away from being able to focus on what's important to you.
Erin and I believe that navigating your distractions and being able to "focus" is not only the key to being more productive, but also the pathway to your happiness, potential, and Extraordinary Future.
It was so amazing to hear in our last group coaching meeting so many of the Young Adults sharing their biggest distractions that they recognized were holding them back in so many significant ways.
Can you guess what the #1 biggest distraction was that was shared? It's probably no big surprise that it was phones. What might be a surprise though, is how much they recognized it, as well as how much they noticed the control and impact that it had over them.
All of them were able to notice their distractions so much easier because of one very important reason: they knew what was important to them.
All of the Teens and Young Adults in the group (s) that we coach have spent time getting clarity on their goals, values, passions - the things that bring you to life, bring out your best, and coincidentally help you focus. Knowing these things also makes it easier to recognize the distractions that are holding you back from taking the small steps each day to connect with them. In other words, you not only gain the ability to navigate your distractions, but you learn how to focus your attention on the things each day that you have prioritized as "important".
Our goal for you is to wake-up each day motivated and excited for what lies ahead, knowing a few small steps you can take today that will connect you with what's important (your values and goals). This sets the stage for you to be able to overcome and minimize distractions, make empowered choices, and focus your attention on what really matters.
With Love,
Erin and Chris
