How Knowing Their Values Will Help Teens and Young Adults Go Back to School With Confidence!

As our young adults head back to school they often find themselves grappling with a mix of excitement and anxiety. Same goes for us parents! The transition back to school can be overwhelming, with new academic challenges, social anxieties, and the pressure to succeed and figure things out. In these moments of fear, overwhelm, and uncertainty, knowing one’s values can serve as a north star and compass for our children, helping to provide them with clarity and direction in every aspect (and moment) of their life, down to the hundreds of decisions and choices that they make each day.

Here at Extraordinary Purpose, we proudly help Teens and Young Adults discover their "special ingredients" - the things that make them unique, different, special, and capable of doing the most amazing things. Seeing and nurturing these parts of themselves creates motivation, confidence, and improved results - all of which can be a game changer for our Back to School strategy. Our values are the foundation of this potential, and represent the parts of us that make us truly one-of-a-kind. Our values are what we stand for, what we believe in, what's important to us, and what we care about. And when we are in alignment with those important parts of ourselves, everything can change (grades, relationships, family dynamics, and self-discovery).   

Values, those deeply held beliefs that shape who we are, offer young adults a foundation upon which they can build their academic and personal lives, making the journey back to school not only manageable but meaningful and connected to something far more important - using every class, every conversation, every sporting event, every club, etc. as an an opportunity to step into their potential and discover who they are meant to become.

Defining Your Signature Values

Personal values are the core principles that define who we are and what we stand for. They influence our behavior, decisions, and the way we interact with the world. For young adults, understanding these values is crucial as they begin to make more independent choices and carve out their paths. Most importantly the more clarity we have on our values, the more clarity we have on our authentic self. 

How Values Shape Our Children's Empowered Identity

One of the many positive outcomes of knowing your values, is the important role that they play in helping Young Adults create what we call their "Empowered Identity" - the version of themselves that is 100% authentic, real, and the true source of their strength and potential. This provides young adults with a sense of confidence and a compass that guides their actions and decisions, especially in a school environment where external influences can be strong. This best version of our children is now capable of making positive choices, supportive relationships, and behaviors that influence and get results. 

The Role of Values in Choices 

When young adults are clear about their values, and have the tools to overcome distractions and become more present, this opens the door for them to get control back over their behaviors and actions, and begin making positive choices that are in alignment with their values.  Whether it’s choosing classes, managing friendships, or setting priorities, values act as a filter, helping them make choices that align with their true selves.
