3 Signs That Can Help Teens and Young Adults Discover Their Purpose
Sep 24, 2024One of the most challenging (and yet important) things that teens and young adults face is finding their direction in life (aka their purpose). With so many possibilities, how can they possibly know which one to choose and which way to go? Not knowing the answers to these questions, can lead young adults to feel stuck, lost, depressed, overwhelmed, and not confident in themselves.
We are passionate about helping young adults find their purpose and true calling by answering some of these important questions, because when they do everything will change.
They will become:
- Motivated
- Confident
- Goal-driven
- Happy
- And so much else!
And one of the biggest changes (and what us parents want to see more than anything) - the best version of themselves beginning to shine through!
The search for purpose often begins with subtle signs that appear in everyday life, especially when our kids are in their teens and twenties. The good news is the signs are sprinkled throughout our life, but in order to notice them we have to practice becoming more self-aware and present.
Here are three key indicators that teens and young adults can watch for on their journey toward discovering their purpose:
1. Things That Have Sparked Their Enthusiasm During Their Life
One clear sign is when certain activities, subjects, or experiences ignite genuine excitement and leave a lasting impression. Whether it’s a particular class, sport, or creative outlet, when they feel energized and passionate, it’s often a reflection of what truly resonates with them...to their core. These moments of excitement leave an imprint on them, are just waiting to be remembered and reconnected with, and can be an important piece of helping them find their purpose.
2. Persistent Curiosity or Desire to Learn More
Curiosity is the #1 skill that we help teens and young adults develop and nurture in our coaching program. When they find themselves naturally wanting to dive deeper into a subject or explore a certain field, it's an opportunity to tap into something potentially meaningful, and at the minimum to learn something new about themselves (and the world). If they consistently feel curious and driven to explore and learn more, this deep curiosity can lead them to discovering parts of themselves that will bring them to life and find their path forward.
3. Feeling Fulfilled When Helping Others
Many young people feel a sense of fulfillment when they make a positive impact on someone else's life. Whether it's volunteering, mentoring, or simply offering support to friends, this sense of satisfaction can point to a deeper calling to contribute and serve. Purpose often aligns with the things that make them feel useful and connected to the world around them, based on everything else that they are passionate about and learning about themselves.
By paying attention to what excites them, what they’re curious about, and where they feel they make a difference, teens and young adults can begin to uncover their unique purpose. These signs serve as guiding lights on their path toward a meaningful and fulfilling life.
With Love,
Erin and Chris
